Southpointe Academy: Inspiring the Leaders of Tomorrow

By: Michelle Hopkins

There are several reasons why parents choose to send their child to an independent school. However, one thing is certain; many parents feel that a private school education offers children the necessary skills needed to navigate the fast, ever-changing world we live in today.

Parents also understand that the competition for entry into top-tier universities has become intense, with an ever-widening pool of applicants competing for openings.

As an innovative and progressive preparatory school, with a strong emphasis on educational excellence as well as character building, Southpointe Academy prepares youth for today’s global world.

As an independent institution, it achieves this by teaching students’ life skills that they will be able to draw on well into the future to be successful, well-rounded individuals.

Inspire Children to Become the Leaders of Tomorrow:

“Our mission is to inspire children to become the leaders of tomorrow,” says Dean Croy, head of school. “Our programs foster the development of our students to be international problem-solvers and thinkers.”

Southpointe Academy was founded in 2000 to meet the needs of both junior and senior students aspiring to attend university. After several years in temporary premises, in January 2012, the school welcomed its 550 students into its brand-new 68,000 square foot facility.

Southpointe offers a distinctive global curriculum, delivered in a progressive way, that is the optimal method to prepare for university and post-secondary success. The school focuses on personal skills, athletics, service learning and the arts, all the while fostering a strong sense of community.

As an International Baccalaureate World School, Southpointe was built on shared values such as: respect, integrity, perseverance, responsibility and kindness. Croy promises students will receive the best academic education available by learning skills and habits that will serve them well throughout their professional and personal adult life. With that vision and open culture, Southpointe Academy has created a school experience like none other.

Croy is especially proud of Southpointe’s debate and public speaking program, Model UN, in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations.

“Our students take part in debating world issues, while they develop analytical, communication and leadership skills needed to solve real world problems,” explains Croy. “Our students compete against students from all over the world and regularly win awards at these events.”

Southpointe Academy’s young men and women leave armed with the preparation necessary to succeed at university and beyond.

“Our graduates have gone on to some of the most prestigious schools across North America and the U.K.,” says Croy proudly.
